shared a new post, New to the Annual Conference? Getting the most out of #altc, on the site Annual Conference 2014 8 years, 7 months ago
Is this the first time you are attending ALT’s Annual Conference? Or maybe the first time in many years? Then we would like to welcome you (back) especially. On Twitter we asked:
With #altc around the corner what would your top tips be for someone attending the conference for the first time? ~MH— ALT Updates (@A_L_T) August 27, 2014
In response Julie Voce (@julievoce) said:
@A_L_T #altc top tips – don't be overwhelmed by the programme, introduce yourself to people as networking is key to a good experience.— Julie Voce (@julievoce) August 27, 2014
Similar advice was suggested by Rich Goodman (@Bulgenen):
#altc top tips – say hello to people – you’ll make connections with loads of great people.— Rich Goodman (@Bulgenen) August 27, 2014
#altc top tips – don’t be scared by the enormous programme – take some time to find sessions that you might not ordinarily go to.— Rich Goodman (@Bulgenen) August 27, 2014
Our colleague David Kernohan (@dkernohan) at Jisc highlighted that looking after yourself is important:
#altc top tips: look after yourself. As in – eat vegetables, drink stuff that isn't coffee or alcohol, allow yourself some downtime each day— ժǻƲïժ κēŗɳoңȺɳ (@dkernohan) August 27, 2014
David also suggested that:
#altc top tips: go to the exhibition stands, meet people there. Especially @pearson – they're always fun to chat to.— ժǻƲïժ κēŗɳoңȺɳ (@dkernohan) August 27, 2014
Pearson aren’t exhibiting this year but we have a long list of others including Jisc and I suggested:
#altc top tips: if you like shiny tech go to the @Jisc stand to try Google Glass (or find me to play with Google Cardboard ;)— Martin Hawksey (@mhawksey) August 27, 2014
Some other ideas to help you get the most out of the three days #altc:
Come along on the first morning to the ALT stand, in the Exhibition Hall, and say hello to our members who are there to welcome you;
There is a welcome event in the evening on the first day as well, so if you would like to meet other new participants and members or find out more about ALT, the Association for Learning Technology, who organises this conference, we look forward to meeting you;
Throughout the 3 days, there are a number of community-led sessions which are marked as such in the programme. Come along to those that interest you and to find out about more opportunities to get involved;
Use the online conference platform to get in touch with other participants and follow sessions you are interested in so that others can connect with you;
If you have questions or seeking help, come to the Conference Helpdesk, at the entrance to the Exhibition Hall and we will do our best to help.We hope this will be your first of many more years participating in our Annual Conference and we hope that you will find it a valuable and stimulating experience. If you have any other tips please feel free to share in the comments or using the #altc tag.
