Description
The Blended Learning Essentials project has run two MOOCs “Getting Started” and “Embedding Practice” four times over the last two years, and is about to launch the third MOOC in the series, “Developing Digital Skills” on 2nd October 2017. A further MOOC is planned for 2018, focusing on digital support for apprenticeships. The project, funded by Ufi, is a collaboration between UCL, University of Leeds and ALT and has included input from across the Vocational Education and Training Sector. During the course of the project, we have accumulated a great deal of experience about designing MOOCs for teacher engagement. We have used our collective expertise of pedagogy and technology to encourage teachers to take part in discussion and share their experience. Central to our success has been our team of Digital Champions – volunteers from the community who have mentored teachers new to blended learning both on and off the platform. Building on this community support, the Digital Champions have created a series of adaptable and shareable workshop learning designs which aim to extend the reach of the MOOCs to those unlikely to sign up to the course without local encouragement. In this session, the Blended Learning Essentials team from University of Leeds Digital Learning Service and School of Education will share their secrets and top tips for designing a MOOC. In addition, there will be an opportunity to experience a 10 minute workshop created and led by a Digital Champion, and the learning design will be available for you to adapt and use in your own institution.
