Description
The Digital Education Team in the College of Medicine, veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow supports the development and delivery of online distance learning (ODL) programmes for the College. To increase awareness of our ODL at Glasgow University and widen participation for our offerings we designed a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) to promote one of the ODL programmes: Health Technology Assessment. The MOOC is delivered in partnership with FutureLearn and the academics involved in developing the MOOC are what could be described as “MOOC Virgins”. This presentation will look at the 4 key phases of MOOC development: Phase 1 Developing the MOOCs, Phase 2 Delivering the MOOCs, Phase 3 Tracking the Evaluating Student Engagement and finally Phase 4 Evaluating the Staff Experience.
Phase 1 Pedagogy and course design of the 3 week MOOC, FutureLearn platform and getting started, video production, social media, copyright, accessibility quality assurance and staff training.
Phase 2 Discussions within MOOC, ongoing communication, padlet, social media, technical support and platform developments.
Phase 3 Demographics, peer review process and participant feedback.
Phase 4 Staff experience and summary.
Finally in the presentation we will explore what worked well, what didn’t and discuss if we should implement MOOCs across the board for our other programmes.
