Description
This lightening talk draws on the authors research on technology enhanced assessment and feedback approaches, specifically the use of digital assessment guides (DAGs) to scaffold the assessment process. It links to the conference theme of Empowerment in Learning Technology. The rapid development of technology provides both opportunities and challenges for educators. Opportunities because there are new ways of interacting with students and achieving sustainability with larger groups. Challenges ensuring the use of technology is constructively aligned with principles of good practice ((Moscrop andBeaumont, 2017), and the difficulties of enacting any change in assessment practices in a world of rapid technology development (Dawson & Henderson, 2017). Digital assessment guides are audio visual representations of the traditional paper assessment guides or handbooks. The session will present the implementation of DAGs at Edge Hill University, which can be used by lecturers to scaffold and enhance the assessment process, including the initial delivery of assessment guidelines, understanding of learning outcomes, and ongoing student self-assessment. The focus will be on DAGs use, which have been clearly evaluated and that have been shown to enhance the student experience of assessment. The lightening talk will introduce what a DAG is, principles for creation across many platforms, how they can help staff and students across all disciplines, how they aid the lecturer and student in large cohorts, and finally how the use of the DAGs helped to improve student understanding of, and attainment in, assessment tasks.
