Description
Session Description
Abertay University has rolled out its Electronic Management of Assessment (EMA) strategy since 2015. In summary:
– all student coursework is submitted online via the VLE, Turnitin and e-Portfolio system
– feedback and grades for all taught modules are processed online within 10 working days
– literal grading policy is now use – A+, A, B+ etc
– centralised support of assessment is facilitated via Registry
– centralised support of student queries is facilitated via the Support Enquiry Zone Helpdesk
During this time, lessons have been learned and challenges have been encountered. Following feedback from staff/students and ongoing reflective evaluation, processes have changed or improved . This session will:
– reflect on the progress that has been made since the introduction of EMA
– highlight triumphs and how challenges were and weren’t resolved
– present examples of different types of summative assessment methods e.g. “trust and honour” online exams
– discuss the creation of staff development resources to improve digital literacy
– discuss the future for EMA at Abertay with respect to the introduction of a new LMS/VLE and associated learning technologies
This session will be useful for participants who are considering or have just started the adoption of EMA across their institution, to help identify and resolve potential challenges, consider new assessment processes and to engage staff and students throughout the ongoing transition.
Session content: evaluation and reflection
This session is based on practice. Evaluation and results are used to improve future practice and learning & teaching strategies.
