Session Description
The University of Manchester has been operating a large-scale lecture capture system since 2013, now recording in excess of 55,000 hours of lectures annually. In 2016 the University created a project to scale the service further and automatically provide 100% lecture capture coverage to disabled students. This short presentation will describe our approach to producing an intelligent system that manages the recording process with minimal interaction from staff and produces recordings specifically targeted for disabled students, ensuring that all their lecture recording requirements are made automatically. We will describe our design for this process, the technologies involved and student impact results from the first year of operation. Additionally we will cover how we have open sourced these improvements as part of the Opencast lecture capture project.
Session content: evaluation and reflection
This session will reflect on the results of a 2016/17 project to deliver 1005 lecture capture coverage, automatically to disabled students. The project results data will be shared as part of the presentation, we will also be sharing all the source code from the application for others to implement or as a basis for their own adaptations.
