Meet the co-chairs

Roger Emery

Head of Learning Technologies, Solent University.

Roger Emery Roger Emery is Head of Learning Technologies at Solent University where he has worked for over 17 years building Solent’s technology enhanced learning provision and is co-lead of the Solent Learning and Teaching Institute. Prior to his time in higher education Roger worked in childrens’ publishing developing first to market CD-Rom and floppy disk educational books and games and spent time in corporate and military computer based training as industry looked to digitise their staff development.

Roger is a steering group member for the Heads of E-Learning Forum and has been a long standing active member of the Moodle and Mahara communities, twice hosting the Mahara annual conference, and was an active supporter of the JISC Regional Support Centre South-East which was key to developing TEL in the FE sector.

A regular attendee and presenter at ALT-C for over 15 years, Roger values the community ALT has nurtured and the opportunity to make new contacts with like minded enthusiasts.

 

Farzana Latif

Digital Learning Manager, University of Sheffield

Farzana Latif Farzana Latif is Digital Learning lead at the University of Sheffield and has accumulated several years of experience working in Higher Educational institutions and the private sector in digital learning-focused roles. Her current role involves shaping the strategic direction of digital learning and managing a central team that supports a wide range of enabling technologies, the remit of which includes the delivery of online learning and exploring and identifying the potential of emerging technologies and their pedagogic value. In 2017 the team she leads was awarded Learning Technology Team of the Year. As one of the first learning technology conferences that Farzana attended, she has always valued ALT-C and sought to make a contribution whenever possible.

As an active member of the learning technology community, Farzana is a steering group member for the Heads of E-learning forum and vice-chair for the UCISA Digital Education Group. She has been a member of the programme committee for ALT-C and EDUCAUSE ELI. At the University of Sheffield, Farzana introduced the institution’s Technology Enhanced Learning Festival (TELFest), an event attracting 400 delegates and an international audience.

Farzana’s interests include the adoption of learning technologies and the different and creative strategies that we as facilitators can put in place to enhance adoption across our institutions. As well as this, she has an active interest in emerging technologies and has previously led on such projects.

 

Matt Lingard

Digital Learning Director, London College of Communication

Matt Lingard Matt Lingard is the Digital Learning Director at London College of Communication, within the University of the Arts London. He leads the college’s strategic approach to digital learning, seeking to improve the quality of the students’ learning experience and develop their digital fluency.

Throughout his career, Matt has been active in the wider learning technology community and really values practice sharing and networking amongst learning technologists. He was previously a facilitator of the M25 Learning Technology Group, on the Steering Group of the Heads of eLearning Forum (HeLF) and setup the UK Poll Everywhere User Group. He has also held several roles within ALT.

Matt attended his first ALT Conference in 2002. He joined the Publications Committee in 2009 and was a Trustee from 2011-2017. This included two years as the Chair of the Publications Committee and the Editorial Board for ALT’s open access journal, Research in Learning Technology. Matt was central to ALT’s initial use of social media; he set up ALT’s YouTube channel and was the first @A_L_T tweeter.

He is working his way around London and has previously held learning technology roles at: University of West London; City, University of London, LSE; London Metropolitan University and London Business School.
