About the venue

The conference will be held at the University of Manchester on the Oxford Road campus. You can download a campus map (the conference venue is at University Place, number 37 on the map).
Manchester has good transport links, whether you are travelling to the city by road, rail or air. It is a compact city so once you arrive, it is possible to travel on foot. The University is conveniently located close to city centre attractions, shops and restaurants, providing you with a great base to explore all that Manchester has to offer.
University Place houses the largest dedicated lecture theatre in the Greater Manchester region. It is an ideal venue for large national and international conferences and high profile events, and boasts a large number of flexible, flat floored rooms for discussion groups.
It is equipped with up to date audio-visual equipment and there is a highly qualified technical support team on site who can also advise on Wi-Fi and wired internet access around the building.

Getting to the Venue / Manchester
By car
Directions to the Oxford Road campus from major routes can be found on the ‘Travel by Car‘ page provided by the University of Manchester. Parking nearby is limited and Oxford Road north of the university is only accessible for public transport, so we advise that wherever possible you use public transport to travel to the conference venue.
By Bus / Metro
The most frequent services to the campus are the 42, 43, 142, 143 which depart from Piccadilly Gardens, Portland Street, Princess Street and Oxford Road. For more information please visit the Stagecoach website.
The closest metrolink stop to the campus is St Peters Square, a 10 minute walk away. Services 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 pass through this stop. For more information please visit Travel for Greater Manchester.
By Coach
National Express coaches serve over 1,200 destinations across the UK from the Chorlton Street Coach Station, which is near Piccadilly railway station and a short walk from both University campuses. To get to the Oxford Road campus turn right out of Chorlton Street Coach Station onto Chorlton Street and walk to the junction with Whitworth Street. The 147 Oxford Road link bus runs from Whitworth Street to several locations on the Oxford Road campus.

By Train
The University of Manchester venue is close to three large rail stations.
- Piccadilly main line station (about two and a half hours from London)
- Oxford Road Train Station
- Victoria Train Station

By Air
If you are planning to travel to altc22 from outside of the UK, please keep informed about the latest travel and health advice relating to Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The nearest airport to the University of Manchester is Manchester Airport, one of the largest and busiest in the country. It is located about 10 miles (16km) south of the city centre, about 30 minutes from the University.
The airport has a number of transport links into the city:
- Train: The airport’s two terminals are linked directly to the city centre by a fast, frequent 24-hour train link to both Piccadilly and Oxford Road stations. Terminal 3 is a 10-15 minute walk from the train station
- Taxi – Manchester Cars operate from the airport
- Metro – ‘Manchester Airport’ metrolink stop travels directly to Victoria train station. The journey to the City Centre takes around 40 minutes.
- Bus: Local buses also run to the Oxford Road and Sackville Street areas of the campus. The ’43’ ran by Stagecoach travels directly past the University
