Before all the egg eating began over the weekend, we had the Spring EMLT meeting at the University of Derby. We had a good turn out and started the event off with some Easter treats and floppy crisps.<\/p>\n<p>We then took part in some <strong>speed networking<\/strong>, where everyone sat in rows and had 3 minutes to talk to someone they had not met before. It was a little hard to hear with all the noise, but hopefully everyone got to meet some new people and form some useful connections.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0brief introduction on digital literacy was given at the beginning fo the sessions to help set the scene, providing a definition, the seven elements of digital literacy and a useful development framework from Jisc.<\/p>\n<iframe src='https:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/slideshow\/embed_code\/46761594' width='476' height='390' scrolling='no' sandbox=\"allow-popups allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-presentation\" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>We then had three <strong>presentations<\/strong> from people within the room focusing on the development of digital literacies.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastmidslt.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/04\/evernote-camera-roll-20150408-084103.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-348 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/eastmidslt.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/04\/evernote-camera-roll-20150408-084103.jpg?w=300&#038;resize=300%2C224\" alt=\"Evernote Camera Roll 20150408 084103\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/strong><strong>Martin Cooke (Freelance Learning Technologist) &#8211; FOMO are you missing out? Technology for well being<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Martin talked about how important it is to reflect upon the way in which we are using\u00a0technology and to sometimes step back, turn the technology off and take a break from all the noise.<\/p>\n<p>You can find Martin&#8217;s slides at:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/my.brainshark.com\/Missing-out-467865273\">http:\/\/my.brainshark.com\/Missing-out-467865273<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-349 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/eastmidslt.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/04\/evernote-camera-roll-20150408-084102.jpg?w=300&#038;resize=300%2C224\" alt=\"Evernote Camera Roll 20150408 084102\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/>Stathis Konstantinidis (Assistant Professor of eLearning and Health Informatics, University of Nottingham) &#8211; Fostering IT Skills Competences of the healthcare workforce of EU and USA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stathis talked about the work he has been doing, helping four\u00a0of the European partners of the\u00a0University of Nottingham to carry out a SWOT analysis of\u00a0programmes for their provision of IT skills. Some of the key conclusions from the work, looked towards MOOC&#8217;s and Open Education Resources as possible tools to\u00a0help provide a sustainable , cost-effective and efficient lifelong learning model.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eastmidslt.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/04\/evernote-camera-roll-20150408-084101.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-351 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/eastmidslt.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/04\/evernote-camera-roll-20150408-084101.jpg?w=300&#038;resize=300%2C224\" alt=\"Evernote Camera Roll 20150408 084101\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a>Elaine Swift (Digital Practice Manager, Nottingham Trent University) &#8211; Scoping Digital Literacy Support at an institutional level<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Elaine talked about the work she has been doing at Nottingham Trent looking at how to embed digital literacy as a core competency across a variety of different roles within the institution. Having put\u00a0together a framework and set of principles for supporting digital practices Elaine and her team are now working in partnership with academic schools to scope a set of specialist competencies for different subject areas.<\/p>\n<p>The next activity saw us getting creative in groups, <strong>drawing our idea of a digitally literate person<\/strong>. There were a number of different interpretations, which I hope you can see in the below images (sorry about the reflections!). We had a prize for the winner. The groups were asked to choose a technology or practice which fitted into one of the seven elements of digital literacy from Jisc.
