In particular I&#8217;m interested if anyone has guidance on what they consider safe and unsafe to store there. For example, do you allow the storage of student related data (exam results) etc?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In response Tracey Duffy (Jisc Digital Media) highlighted Jisc Legal\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jisclegal.ac.uk\/ManageContent\/ViewDetail\/ID\/2883\/What-are-the-FOI-and-DP-implications-of-using-services-like-Dropbox-or-Evernote-28-January-2013.aspx\">What are the FOI and DP implications of using services like Dropbox or Evernote?<\/a>\u2019 guidance from January 2013. Tracey\u2019s colleague at Jisc Digital Media, Virginia Power, followed up with this extensive annotated list of resources which readers might find useful:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Boston University have a policy that might be useful to you \u2013 they have tied it in with Data Protection and Restricted Documents albeit from a US perspective <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/infosec\/policies\/google-drive-security\/%20\">http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/infosec\/policies\/google-drive-security\/\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Bristol University have this site which covers a lot of information including some Do\u2019s and Don\u2019ts in terms of storage <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bristol.ac.uk\/it-services\/applications\/google-apps\/drive\/\">http:\/\/www.bristol.ac.uk\/it-services\/applications\/google-apps\/drive\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>If you are looking for a useful staff development course\/guide around Data Storage and Security I would recommend a particular section of MANTRA from EDINA which could form an integral part of the policy<a href=\"\/\/datalib.edina.ac.uk\/mantra\/storageandsecurity\/\"> http:\/\/datalib.edina.ac.uk\/mantra\/storageandsecurity\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Page 14 of University of Portsmouth\u2019s guidance is quite definite about what you can and can\u2019t store on Google Drive <a href=\"http:\/\/www.port.ac.uk\/departments\/services\/universitysecretary\/recordsmanagement\/factsheets\/filetodownload,178819,en.pdf\">http:\/\/www.port.ac.uk\/departments\/services\/universitysecretary\/recordsmanagement\/factsheets\/filetodownload,178819,en.pdf<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Finally Durham University has a good page on issues to consider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dur.ac.uk\/cis\/security\/dropboxcloud\/\">https:\/\/www.dur.ac.uk\/cis\/security\/dropboxcloud\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Update:<\/strong> the Department for Education has recently published <span style=\"color: #0b0c0c\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/cloud-software-services-and-the-data-protection-act\">Departmental advice on data protection for schools considering cloud software services<\/a>\u00a0which includes a vendor checklist and responses from Google and Microsoft.
