In what we hope will be the first of a series, I\u2019m looking at some blog posts that caught the eye of the #altc blog editorial team recently. The three posts we have chosen highlight the range of formats and topics that learning technology bloggers embrace.<\/p>\n

The big picture<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Digital Exclusion project that <\/span>Dr Ellen Helsper<\/span><\/a> wrote about in <\/span>her post<\/span><\/a> for the <\/span>LSE Media Policy Project blog<\/span><\/a> also received coverage in the <\/span>Guardian media datablog<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>UK Digital Exclusion Heatmap<\/span><\/a>, launched in collaboration with Go On UK highlights parts of the UK where people are excluded from full participation in the digital. Dr Helsper uses her blog post to dig a bit deeper and highlight three urgent issues that need action: <\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Gaps in skills and use data<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Measurement and indicator design flaws<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Contextuality and flexibility<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Knowledge sharing in the ALT community<\/span><\/h2>\n

    Closer to home, Flea Palmer (Plymouth University) used the responses she received to a question on the <\/span>ALT-Members Jiscmail list<\/span><\/a> about <\/span>Tools for Digital Notetaking<\/span><\/a> for a post on the <\/span>FoBIT<\/span><\/a> (Faculty of Business IT) blog.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Flea\u2019s post covers devices, accessories and apps to give a really useful overview of the tools currently available for digital notetaking. When we put our heads together, we ALT members can come up with a pretty impressive range of suggestions! <\/span><\/p>\n

    Technology in use <\/span><\/h2>\n

    You will have noticed that the #altc blog has started to include posts which review apps and discuss their use. For example, we have recently heard about <\/span>Slack<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Padlet<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

    David Read (University of Sheffield) wrote a fascinating blog post recently entitled: Tools for Learning Technologists: The Swivl<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>His post looks at \u2018What is it?\u2019 alongside \u2018What can it be used for?\u2019 and \u00a0\u2018Any issues with it?\u2019 to provide a clear overview for anyone thinking of\u00a0trying it for themselves as well as a basic introduction for those of us who have never heard of a Swivl<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
