{"id":775,"date":"2022-05-06T13:17:54","date_gmt":"2022-05-06T12:17:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/altc.alt.ac.uk\/oesig\/?p=775"},"modified":"2023-01-04T14:42:05","modified_gmt":"2023-01-04T14:42:05","slug":"775","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/altc.alt.ac.uk\/blog\/2022\/05\/775\/","title":{"rendered":"An intersectional approach to learning technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Chimamanda Adichie The danger of a single story 3 min cut\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Drj0cZTBhUI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The field of learning technology, also known as e-learning, educational technology and digital education,\u00a0 has been defined as the broad range of communication, information and related technologies that are used to support learning, teaching and assessment (Association for Learning Technology, 2021).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Collins and Bilge (2020) define\u00a0 intersectionality as a \u201c way of understanding and analysing the complexity in the world, in people, and in human experiences&#8230; When it comes to social inequality, people&#8217;s lives and the organisation of power in a given society are better understood as being shaped not by a single axis of social division, be it race or gender or class, but by many axes that work together and influence each other. Intersectionality as an analytic tool gives people better access to the complexity of the world and of themselves\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the field of learning technology, we are beginning to see an increasing interest in the decolonisation of digital education, critical digital pedagogy, and inclusive practice.
