Dr Jessie Paterson & Dr Hamish Macleod, University of Edinburgh
Over a number of years, from the early 1990s, the University of Edinburgh surveyed the undergraduate student population to gauge IT ownership and competency. These data have been invaluable in informing policy particularly in terms of what support student need to derive most benefit from ICT-related learning. They have assisted the University to making decisions on directions to take in terms of provision and training, etc. Not only are these trends applicable to this University but they are equally applicable to a wide range of other Institutions. In recent years we have not been able to carry out these surveys -the last dataset was gathered in 2007 as part of a JISC-funded project. The small grants project is a repotr of this survey. 2010 October.
