Description
Twitter use, particularly #edchat type events, by teachers in both compulsory and HE sectors, has become a favourite channel for sharing resources and ideas. In the process, teachers have built strong communities of practice. By using OER YouTube videos to show how to use social media (Twitter) for these purposes, teachers in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) should soon be able to replicate this successful use of social media. The barriers that have existed to date are slowly breaking down as communication technologies improve and become more accessible in many nations in the region. Now is the time to build bridges over this particular divide and embed these ideas in teacher training in order to take advantage of the widening availability of WIFI, smartphones and cheap data plans in SSA.
Proposed Artifact: The artifact will be one of a series of CPD OER videos that will show one of the steps needed to start using Twitter. This is part of a larger learning design.
