Description
Implementing electronic management of assessment brings many benefits for students including, time-saving, eliminating cost of printing and the security of digital receipts and backups (Jisc, 2014). There are many benefits for the institution and staff as well. Online assessment and marking however does require a significant change in practice for many University staff. This online assessment toolkit developed at Abertay University as an OER and now adapted by Brunel University London is designed to help staff find out about the different tools available, at their institution, for assessing online. Additionally the intention is that the toolkit encourages staff to try new and innovate ways to use technologies that are suitable for the style of the assessment set. This session invites colleagues to use the toolkit and comment on its suitability and adaptability as an OER for their own institution.
If you would like to know more about the toolkit prior to joining the tweetchat you can view this 8min video where I demonstrate the toolkit and discuss the process of updating it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQlnKdLbS5c
As an open educational resource the original toolkit can be downloaded from Jorum at: http://find.jorum.ac.uk/resources/10949/20114
I will be tweeting from @Alice_LaRooy using hashtag: #altchat
During the session I will propose the following questions, however all discussion is welcome.
Q1: Is there institutional guidance for choosing tools for assessment at your HEI?
Q2: Who is responsible for offering guidance on tech for assessment – TEL team, libraries, Q&S etc.?
Q3: Should a tool like this cover third-party tools like e.g. WordPress, Flickr, etc.?
Q4: Would you offer any different advice for technology tools for formative assessments vs. summative?
Q5: Success Stories: Have you introduced something that has significantly changed assessment practices?
I look forward to seeing you online.
