The #altcgame organised by members of the GLSIG ran throughout the ALT 2015 conference. Whilst initially designed to just add a playful element to the conference we soon realised we could also use it to encourage positive behaviours and help with issues conference organisers often run into.To this end the game aimed to:
• Get participants to talk to one another
• Demonstrate range of game-based approaches
• Encourage positive behaviours
• Provide playful element to the conference
The game used an overarching narrative where the evil DarkBot (@botofevil) planned to take over the world through poor quality learning technology and delegates needed to help defeat him by
choosing a robot champion to challenge him. There were a variety of rewards used throughout and the game encouraged competition and collaboration. Our presentation will outline and demonstrate some of the activities used and promote discussion and feedback which we will use to develop further conference games.
