Description
The technology-based skills audit has become a much-maligned resource within the teachers’ staffroom: often cited as a pointless exercise in generating paperwork, with questions that don’t relate wholly to the specifc aim of the audit, and, as a result, staff levels of knowledge and confidence regarding learning technology remaining unchanged, while levels of scepticism grow.
Cardiff University’s School of Healthcare Sciences has developed an online audit that:
* Takes participants no more than a few minutes to complete
* Relates to social media, OERs, and free-to-use, web based TEL apps and sites
Not only did academics within the school find this a much more relevant audit, they were surprised at how much they didn’t know about ongoing developments in TEL. As a result, responses are now being used to shape the way TEL is understood and used by academic staff, and other Schools within the University are keen to use the audit in their own schools.
