Description
In this extended workshop I will be using Twitter, with the hashtag #altcpedls (altc pedagogy of learning spaces) and Padlet (http://www.padlet.com). I will asking a series of questions to participants of whether they face pedagogical challenges to the delivery of their academic practice in new and existing learning spaces. The aim of the tweetchat is to explore the attitudes and practices of participants and the extent to which they use and shape their academic practice with learning spaces in mind. In addition, I want explore the key motivators and barriers in developing pedagogical repertoires in relation to new and existing physical learning spaces.
To this end, 5-6 questions will be asked to hopefully bring about some rich discussion in this topic, which has been unexplored in the higher education context fully (Temple 2007, Holley, 2008, Taiye Dare, 2011 and Mulcahy 2015). Furthermore, I will be asking participants to use Padlet to post extended examples, using videos, image and drawings and comment on some possible scenarios, to further simulate discussion in response to questions asked.
This session will be of benefit academics and staff developers, as there is less thought given to space in pedagogy, technology and space when developing curricula (Radcliffe et al, 2008).
By exploring attitudes and practices to learning spaces (Oblinger, 2006), participants will have an appreciation of some of the issues that academics face with physical learning spaces and some possible solutions from this collaborative tweetchat. These can be taken back to their institutions to experiment further.
