Description
At UWS, within the school of Health, Nursing and Midwifery, a pilot project has been running to explore and evaluate a hands-on interactive workshop incorporating Virtual Reality (VR) technology to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
Through the use of immersive VR simulations that enables nursing students to view different sensory processing experiences. The session was designed to help students to better empathise with individuals who have sensory differences and to ultimately enable them to be more effective, person-centred practitioners.
The webinar will consist of a short overview of what sensory processing is and how it can have an impact in the clinical environment. This will be followed by, discussing the apps that were used (all freely available) and how they were used to demonstrate sensory processing.
The webinar will then discuss what VR hardware we have available to use and what equipment was settled on, for use in the workshops. Like most technology used in an educational environment, there were some issues and we will go through what they were and the workarounds that helped resolved these, prior to the class running.
Finally, what is next step for the school in using Virtual Reality as a learning and teaching tool?
