- users of screen readers (visual issues/blindness).
While the Home Office posters are a powerful set of guidelines, the breadth of information can be difficult to interpret when trying to develop educational resources that need to work for as many learners as possible. For this reason, the Diverse Learners Poster aims to address a broad base of design requirements that if met, will support the majority of users.
The core principle behind the poster is support for ALL learners. The reason we take this approach is that ‘adjustments’ traditionally associated with making something ‘accessible’ actually benefit all users. Some examples of this include video transcripts, heading styles for navigation and following simple content structures. These things should not be framed as ‘adjustments’, but as fundamental principles that support everyone.
Given the complicated nature of developing the guidance within this poster, this edit-a-thon reaches out to the ALT Winter Community for feedback to support the next phase of our work. This edit-a-thon will present delegates the opportunity to contribute to the development of this work through:
- Providing comments, critique and/or advise on the future development of this poster. This could involve amendments, additions, rephrasing or any other form of feedback.
- Share initial discussions around the development of contextualised versions of the poster for VLE/web material and for Microsoft Office-based documents.
