Description
By speculating on social issues and concepts in imagined, abstract ways we can open up a space for discussion about the future (Dunne and Raby, 2013). In this session, the question we are asking is “what’s your personal future in learning technology”?
By incorporating elements of design and participatory fiction you will be ‘world building’ a near future beyond what you might think possible. The session will start with an example scenario and over time a series of multimodal artefacts will be presented, immersing you in the possible present. Collaboratively, you will create a narrative in response, an imaginative reality or “fictional truth” (Dindler, 2010) about the meaning of the artefacts. Using a relatable theme of overcoming anxiety and achieving resilience when working as Learning Technologist, by the end you will be able to empathise with, and use the strategies presented in the narrative to inform your own work and to create the best shared future.
The TEL Tale podcast launched at ALTC-19 (part of the ALT Mentions podcast) was one Learning Technologist’s experiment in dramatic monologue, with a later episode taking suggestions from the audience on the direction of the story. Inspired by the theme of increasing the impact of Learning Technology for the wider community, we wish to promote and test methods of multimodal story-tellling in this participatory and collaborative session.
