How to join the online platform

You can join the online platform (Zoom Events) via a web browser or by downloading the Zoom Workplace App (no account required) on a desktop/laptop or mobile device. 

We recommend you check if your system meets the Prerequisites for joining Zoom Events.

Joining the online platform

  1. You will receive an email from noreply-zoomevents@zoom.us with the subject “Join ALT’s Annual Conference 2024”.
  2. The email will be sent to the address you used to register for the event. Please check your spam.
  3. To join on a desktop/laptop, open the email on that device. Open the email and click Join.
  4. To join on a mobile device, ensure you have the Zoom Workplace App installed, open the email on your preferred device and press Join.
  5. You will be taken to the conference Lobby.
  6. Retain the email to allow you to re-join throughout the conference.

Getting started

  1. Click on Streams to view the available streams.
  2. Each day has a stream for the Keynote and a livestream per room.
  3. You can enter a search term or click on Filter by date or category, to find a stream.
  4. Click on Hide ended streams to hide streams that have ended.
  5. Click on the bookmark icon to add a stream to your itinerary.
  6. Click on Itinerary to show your bookmarked streams.
  7. Click on your initials, in the top-right corner, followed by Create profile to upload a photo, update your first name, last name, position and company information.
  8. If you would prefer not to be visible to others on the platform, click on your initials, in the top-right corner, and select Hide me.

Join a stream

Please note: the speakers will not be able to see, hear or interact with you.

  1. Click on Streams, or from your itinerary click on the stream from the calendar, and click Join.
  2. Sessions that have started will display a Join button and red Now icon.
  3. If you have the Zoom Workplace App installed, it will open a dialogue to open the app OR you can download the Workplace App OR Join from your Browser (opens a new window).
  4. If the session hasn’t started the screen will display a message that says Waiting for host to start the webinar.
  5. Once the stream starts, you should join automatically. If not, refresh your screen or return to the lobby and join again.
  6. When you join, your camera will be disabled and your microphone will be muted.
  7. When joining via the browser you will see:
    • Video of the room in the centre of the screen.
    • Chat icon: chat has been disabled.
    • Show captions: show automated captions.
    • Settings: check or change your video or audio settings.
    • Leave: leave the stream.

Switch between streams

At any time, return to the lobby. Click on Streams or Itinerary to find a stream and click Join.

Watch a recording

Once a stream has finished, the video will be processed and made available automatically.

When a recording is available to watch, a Watch recording button will appear next to the stream in the Streams view. In Itinerary, click on the stream in the calendar where the Watch recording button will be displayed. An audio transcript from the recording will be displayed below the video.
