Description
Transitioning to digital learning technologies can be complex, especially for instructors and institutions doing so for the first time. Across many fields and approaches, research has identified several key success factors. This session explores these, including: general principles of learning that technologies should reflect; how to identify learning challenges and technologies that might address them, and what types of stakeholder support and professional development are associated with better outcomes. There is, of course, no magic formula, but we will share a practical 4 step approach to building an effective digital learning experience.
Using this research to create a consistent set of frameworks, language, and tools can help foster more productive discussions about when learning technologies may be appropriate (and when they may not!) and how to best make the transition.
Dan Belenky is Director of Learning Science Research at Pearson. Prior to joining Pearson in 2014, he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Belenky earned his PhD in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, where he studied how student motivation interacts with (and is impacted by) innovative instructional methods. His current research projects explore how insights from cognitive psychology and behavioral science can be used to improve learner outcomes at scale.
