Session Description
Colleges and universities are facing unprecedented challenges – but also opportunities, where technology can play a central role in our students’ experiences. Our staff have responded rapidly to the changing environment and expectations in these exceptional circumstances.
COVID-19 has increased our requirement for remote and online delivery, so we’re asking our staff now more than ever, to design and deliver interactive and engaging learning for all students across all disciplines. Investment to support teaching staff to develop these digital skills and enable them to teach with confidence and innovation is vital.
Understanding how students and staff are using technology is essential to inform the development of colleges and universities’ digital provision in this changing landscape. Since 2016, Jisc has been running the digital experience insights surveys to support organisations to gather staff and students’ expectations and experiences of technology.
The insights surveys are allow colleges and universities to collect valid, representative and actionable data from their students, teaching staff, professional services staff and researchers, and to use the data to begin conversations with students and staff about their digital experience.
This webinar reports on the research findings from the 2020 teaching staff surveys. 40 UK universities and colleges and 5,362 teaching staff participated this year. The session will highlight the issues teaching staff are experiencing with their use of technology over the past year including changes which occurred whilst in lockdown, for example, support for professional development, development of their digital skills, concerns over responsibilities for online safety and accessible practice. Participants in the webinar will have the opportunity to discuss whether these results align with what they are experiencing in their own organisation and share ideas on how we can work together to address these challenges.
