Learning Analytics: Using data to improve the learner experience

The data we collect from learners can be really powerful in helping us to shape and improve learning and educational institutions and organisations are pushing to use learner data more effectively. But, how can we use this data most effectively? How much can this really tell us about the learner experience? What are its limitations? What are the ethical implications of collecting and using this data? How should the introduction of the GDPR on 25th May 2018 influence how we store and manage this data?

During the event we hope to explore these questions and more, discussing how learner data, big and small, can be used to help us improve learning and teaching.

We will also have a special workshop from Niall Sclater from Jisc exploring ethics and how this links to GDPR.

Whether it is data from a single activity which helps us to focus teaching resources and respond to the student voice or on a larger scale, where data across platforms comes together to aid retention and achievement, data becomes a valuable asset for both the tutor and learner.

Call for presentations

We’d still like some short presentations from our community – 5 minutes – where you tell us about the approaches you have taken using learner data, this can be from the perspective of the tutor or learner, so please complete the form if you’re happy to present.
