Photographs and copyright infringement claims: a workshop for education – 21st July from 2-3:30 PM (BST)
Sign up for an interactive session hosted by Chris Morrison and Jane Secker (ALT CoOL SIG Co-Chairs), joined by speakers from Open University and Creative Commons
This session is aimed at those working in education establishments who have received copyright infringement claims from picture agencies for their use of photographs, some of which are Creative Commons licensed. There have been incidents of individuals who appear to be deliberately exploiting older Creative Commons attribution conditions when uploading images to sites like Flickr.
Chris Morrison and Jane Secker (Co-chairs of ALT CoOLSIG) will be joined by Andre Maingot from the Open University who will discuss how his institution has handled these claims. We will also be joined by Sarah Pearson and Brigitte Vezina from Creative Commons who will discuss good practice when using Creative Commons licensed content.
This structured session will be comprised of short presentations and group based discussion activity to discuss a shared approach from the UK education community to handling these claims in a way that doesn’t encourage the practice some are calling ‘copyright trolling.’
